I`m sort of an enigma; I was raised on a ranch and I`ve done every task associated with ranching - and I LOVE cowboys and all their traditional garb - but I`m more of a t-shirt and sneakers kind o` guy (my instep has always made boot-wearing rather uncomfortable).
I`m a musician/composer, first, who just happens to have been raised on a ranch. I`ve never shunned the cowboy lifestyle, but I`ve been more of an admirer of cowboy boots and hats than an actual participant. But know this: There isn`t anything a cowboy can`t do on a ranch that I can`t do equally as well - or even better! I guess you could say I`m a sub-cowboy, relegated to a genre just outside the die-hard, shit-kickin` one, though I`ve been covered with shit from head to toe on more than one occasion! Rather than using Alan Jackson`s music to score a rodeo scene, I`d opt for Aaron Copland`s Rodeo. If you don`t know who Aaron Copland is - and that`s totally OK with me - then I`ve made my point, haven`t I?! Just don`t dismiss me entirely based upon what some cowboys might consider an impureness which permeates my odd status.
Given a choice, I`d take the guy with the boots over the suit any day!
